To get the gold, be like Gabby and go outside your comfort zone
By now, everyone is probably familiar with the Gabby Douglas story.
How at 14 years of age the American Olympic gymnast moved from Virginia Beach to West Des Moines in Iowa and changed coaches.
There’s more to it than that.
Not only did Gabby move, but the teenager moved halfway across the country by herself and lived with a host family. Gutsy thing for anyone to do, let alone a teenager.
She didn’t move because her mother encouraged her to do so. Or her coach . In fact, she was changing coaches. She made the change because she knew it would push her up to the next level.
There’s an old saying, “Life begins the moment you step outside your comfort zone.”
Gabby is a great example of this maxim. She literally took several thousand steps away from friends, family and her coach to become the star gymnast she wanted to become.
And that choice was rewarded handsomely – with an Olympic gold medal for best All-Around Gymnast at the 2012 Olympics. The first African-American woman, heck, the first woman of color to win that title, ever.
Okay, so we don’t expect you to drop everything and move to Iowa to start doing quadruple somersaults on a trampoline.
But the question to all savvy real estate professional is not are you willing to move out of your comfort zone. In this business, that’s a given.
The real question is, what are your plans to move out of your comfort zone?
For example, what have you done to update your web site?
Are you aware of the WordPress technology that allows you more flexibility to create pages instantly, to add real estate-related plug-ins quickly and to continually enhance your site for search engines?
(In contrast to grueling Olympic training, the beauty of WordPress is that the technology makes it easier to update your site and optimize it for search engines).
Are you willing to move outside your comfort zone to adopt new technologies, like WordPress, the most popular platform in the world?
Do you plan to at least spend a few minutes researching the newest web platforms out there, like WordPress, to see if you are missing the latest advances in real estate marketing?
Sure, this stuff takes time out of your busy schedule.
But look at Gabby. She took the time to move to the middle of the US and live with a strange family to pursue her goals. And look how it paid off. (She’s also on the cover of Time magazine).
“Something clicked in my head that said, if I really want to make this happen, I need to get better coaching,” Gabby said of her brave decision to relocate.
Hopefully, the need for you to get out of your comfort zone and explore new technology is clicking in your head.

They won’t make you do a Yurchenko on the horse or a Straddle Back on the uneven bars, but making moves such as this will help you reach your goals of selling homes like a winner.
