Facebook is everywhere and you should be too
Here’s a parlor game.
Try to name all the things that have become “ubiquitous” in your life.
Ubiquitous is defined as “seeming to have the ability to be everywhere at once.”
Cell phones – sure. Starbucks – almost. Facebook – definitely.
You got to admit, every company would love to have the incredibly free promotion of its product that Facebook enjoys.
Companies that pay top dollar to advertise on the web, in newspapers and magazines AND on television are all adding a note that says something to the effect “like us on Facebook.”
Wouldn’t you love to have a product – a soft drink, toy or CD, that whenever a business ran an advertisement, they asked consumers to “by the way, take a gulp of that fine broccoli flavored beer from __________?”
It’s crazy. You wonder why Facebook is worth $68 billion? Well, there’s a very good reason. A very, very good reason.
There’s also an opportunity.
There’s a major opportunity for you as a real estate broker or agent to piggyback on Facebook’s ubiquitousness (yep, that’s a word).
Because unlike parts of the web, or newspapers and magazines or television, you get to promote yourself on Facebook for free as well.
There are many ways to do this. One way is to be sure to give visitors to your website the ability to post or share an item to their Facebook page.
Make it easy to share and they will send content from your site to their Facebook “wall” where, bazinga, now all their friends will learn about your real estate firm. Or you personally could send content from your site, say a hot new listing.
That’s free brand visibility.
There’s another major benefit – search engine optimization. Getting people to share links back to your site is one measure Google uses to determine the value of your web site and how it ranks.
Sounds great, doesn’t it?
The key is, you got to have something interesting to share. For example, not the fact that you ran around the block this morning.
One tool you can use to provide great content on your site worth sharing is the SpatialMatch IDX and Lifestyle search engine.
For example, on my Facebook wall I just shared details about a $24 million house for sale in Palm Beach, Florida, with an underground passage to the Atlantic Ocean beach, naturally (see below).
The SpatialMatch link shows numerous photos of this gorgeous 11,000 sq. ft. home, where it is located on a map, details, a description and contact information for the listing agent.
If you wanted, with SpatialMatch’s extensive neighborhood search database, you could also designate where the trendiest restaurants or shops are located nearby.
Imagine someone who could afford such a home posting it on their Facebook page, posting where other people who could afford such a home will see it.
Perhaps one of these Facebook users buys the home. Wow.
Perhaps one of these Facebook users contacts the agent for another home. Wow.
Perhaps one of these Facebook users forwards this link on to their group of followers who end up…well, you get the picture.
You just promoted a property for free on a platform that is used by nearly everybody in the world.
Don’t just sit there admiring (or complaining) about Facebook’s recent IPO and the success of its founders and employees.
Jump on the bandwagon and share in some of that success as well. That’s the kind of success everybody in the world would enjoy.
